T.G.I.F

Thank. Goodwill. It's. Friday! Last night I attended The Swapaholics & Goodwill Boston Blogger event. It was great! There was a group of about 10 of us Boston Fashion/Style bloggers. We were invited to do a little thrifting in the store (with  a 50% off coupon-- Thanks Goodwill!!), then we went behind the scenes to learn all about the good work they do, and experience the processing part of the thrift stores.

(Check all of us out by the huge bails of unwanted clothes. These clothes are on their way to great places to be recycled.)

The Swapaholics always have great events, but this was really different and informative. It also gave me another look at Goodwill. They aren't just a chain of retail thrift stores that accept donations. They do a lot of good in the community, like job  training, and offer employment to people who may otherwise find it difficult to find a job due to their handicaps, language barrier, etc. They really give back and the Boston HQ has been doing it since 1895!!

I am also now in love with the Goodwill on Harrison Ave in Boston. It's so big, clean, well organized and I found some gems!! We don't have too many Goodwill  stores in my neck of the woods, so I'll have to start traveling a little farther. (Some of the other bloggers swear by the Goodwill Worcester & Quincy stores.)  The clothes are all organized by color, which I love because sometimes I don't know what size I am until I try it on. Plus, it just looks pretty.

Look at all these dresses! Almost the whole length of the store.

So, what did I score? I found two cute skirts, a blouse, and the ultimate bedside light... All for $12.50. What a Bargain!
Drum roll, please...

Thrifted Mermaid Lamp for Madcap Style's house

Isn't she absolutely lovely?! I don't know if she's actually all that vintage, as the bottom is marked made in Taiwan, but boy she sure is unique! When I eventually find some night stands for our bedroom, she'll be placed on my nightstand, with her soft glow to provide me with some lovely reading light.

Overall it was a great night, I was able to meet a few new blogger ladies and had a good time. I am excited to keep checking back with Goodwill to see what new gems I can find and also to hear about volunteer opportunities. If you find something fun at Goodwill you'd like to share, on Fridays tweet a photo to @goodwillboston with the hashtag #thankgoodwillitsfriday.
